Homemade Potato Chips

Homemade Potato Chips

I love making things in the kitchen from scratch!  It makes me feel like I am doing a good deed for my family and I am able to control what goes into the food they eat.

We generally are not a potato chip family but every once-in-a-while we enjoy them.  And, we have really started liking sweet potato chips.

My kitchen is not large by any means and so I generally do not bother with equipment that has just one purpose.  If it takes up shelf space, I can use it for several purposes.

However, a few weeks ago I found myself invited to a Pampered Chef party.  I flipped through their catalog and on a whim thought I would purchase a potato chip maker for the microwave.  I fully intended that it would probably be a one and done item but I was feeling adventuresome that night, so I took the plunge.

I am here to tell you it is great! Go out and find yourself a Pampered Chef distributor and get one. I normally don’t get excited about things like this but this is great!

Some little facts (because I like numbers):

 -  I used $.20 in potatoes to get 68 potato chips.
 -  Those 68 potato chips served my husband, myself and my daughter
 -  It took me 2 minutes to cut up the potatoes
 -  It took about 10 minutes to microwave the potatoes

And the best part, no oil was used and no salt!  I used Mrs. Dash on the potatoes and just popped them in the microwave.  I have ventured out and done sweet potatoes as well.  My next adventure will be beets when I get some from the garden.

If you need some new excitement in the kitchen give this a try – I think it is well worth the time spent and the knowledge in knowing you can have a snack food that is healthy!

You can also make apple chips! My fave "potato chips" are with the chili lime rub sprinkled on top. This is such a fun tool.
